Hi friends, let me start by wishing you all a very Happy New Year I hope that 2020 will be good for everybody. As I look back on 2019, I cannot help but feel very thankful for my walk with Jesus, all glory to God for bringing me this far in my life. I hope that this year will bring you closer to the lord too. In this post, I just want to share something that God has laid on my heart, and it’s about the importance of knowing your worth in Christ.
For many years, I’ve always looked to other people for validation; sadly, I’ve wasted so much time worrying about the opinions of others. It’s only human to want to be liked, nobody wants to be hated. Still, as Christians, we should not seek the approval of fellow sinful men and women, we should stop trying to see ourselves through the eyes of others and instead see our worth in Christ.
God Knows Our Need Before We Ask
I agree that I don’t know it all. I don’t always know what’s best for myself, but I do know that the God of heaven and earth, the God who created you and me, knows what’s best for His creation. He knows our every need before we even ask Him. Matthew 6:8, “Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
I just want to share with you an excellent quote from Martin Luther “God doesn’t love us because of our worth, we are of worth because God loves us” I really believe when we understand that we must seek to please God and find His validation, nothing can tear us down. Sometimes God allows us to be broken so that He can build us back up again, then again, He is goodness itself, consider this verse(Psalm 34:18) “The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”; other human beings will claim to build you up when they’re tearing you down the difference between those people, and God, is that they are not good.
Beware Of Master Manipulators
This year I’ve decided I’m going to be intentional about seeking the approval of God and not of Man. I do want to respect people, I do want to show the love of Christ and live out the gospel. Still, I do not believe that God intends for his people to allow themselves to be vulnerable to those who only want to control us and eventually do us harm. He doesn’t want us to be ‘yes’ men. I am really hoping that from this year onwards, I will use the word ‘no’ more often, albeit judiciously. My aim is to never apologize for who God created me to be and to not reward others who try to guilt-trip me. If this has been a struggle for you too, I hope that you feel convicted to pray about it and seek the Lord’s wisdom on this matter. If we stand firm in God’s word, nothing can shake us.
